The core members of Fiddle Hill are Chris Devine, Steve Benson, and Brian Bender. Other musicians and/or dance callers are added (as needed) for specific performances and events.
STEVE BENSON (vocals, guitar, mandolin) sings Irish Pub and Folk songs with a tremendous amount of charisma and style. His vocal style could be described as "bottling a Nor Easter and uncorking it on St Pat's." Steve is also a very accomplished guitarist/mandolinist. He has performed as an opening act for Billy Gibbon, The Revivalists, The Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms, Gomez, and Little Feat, and has toured with various bands all over the country.
BRIAN BENDER (piano, accordion, percussion) is a professional folk musician, multi-instrumentalist and teacher. He has recorded on over 20 CDs, receiving critical acclaim in various publications including Sing Out and Dirty Linen. Brian holds a B.A. from New England Conservatory's Third Stream Studies program, a 4-year intensive study of folk music from around the world. In addition to playing piano, Brian also plays trombone, melodica and percussion in various Swing, Dixieland, Klezmer, Reggae, African, Salsa and Jazz Groups. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Presidential Inauguration of Bill Clinton, the Cape Verde Islands (West Africa), France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and throughout the United States. In Fiddle Hill, Brian's piano and percussion accompaniment provide rhythmic, melodic and harmonic support to the fiddle melodies. Brian performs regularly with over 10 bands, teaches private lessons and classes/workshops to children and adults of all ages, owns and operates Face The Music Recording Studio (Shutesbury, MA), and works as a freelance sound engineer.
CHRIS DEVINE (fiddle, flute, pennywhistle, recorder, vocals, guitar) is a flat out masterful musician -- equally extraordinary on electric and acoustic violin/guitar, mandolin, concert flute, soprano saxophone, keyboards and vocals. In his other life he's a skilled actor and comic who has appeared on Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and PBS. At last count Chris has topped the century mark,as a session musician appearing on over a hundred CD's ranging from jazz to classical to country. He also sings and plays flute in a Jethro Tull tribute band he leads called Minstrels in the Gallery.
